In this exclusive interview, Fintan Walton talks to Elias Papatheodorou, CEO of novosom, about the company’s novel liposomal technology, and the potential applications of this technology. Elias explains how novosom’s liposomes differ from those of competitors, and how the technology could provide an alternative to antibodies in the targeting of CD40 cells. The basis and strategy behind novosom’s agreements with Isis and other companies are also discussed. In addition, Elias talks about novosom’s current financing drive to fund the company’s activities.

Elias Papatheodorou joined novosom in September 2004 from ATI Medical Imaging, a New York-based medical imaging company, where he held the position of Vice President for marketing, sales and business development. During his tenure, the company signed multimillion agreements with companies such as Amgen, Janssen, J&J, Medicus, Medtronic, Novartis, CBS and Discovery Network, as well as other agreements with the US NIH, Siemens Medical and Zeiss. Elias was also involved in discussions with a number of leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Before ATI, Elias worked in various positions for The Coca-Cola Company and Philip Morris. He received his undergraduate education at Ithaca College, and his graduate education at Cornell University (both in New York).
