Gilead Sciences: Ireland - Much More than just a Portal to the EU Market
Since 1987, Gilead Sciences has worked to discover, develop, and commercialise medications to advance the care of patients suffering from life-threatening diseases in areas of unmet medical need. Headquartered in Foster City, California, the company has expanded rapidly over the past two decades, with annual revenues now exceeding $4 billion, operations spanning three continents (North America, Europe, and Australia), and a staff of more than 3,000 employees. Gilead’s primary areas of focus include: antivirals (such as HIV/AIDS and chronic hepatitis), cardiovascular conditions (such as pulmonary arterial hypertension and resistant hypertension), and respiratory diseases (such as influenza and cystic fibrosis). Their growing pipeline includes novel investigational medications for resistant hypertension, cystic fibrosis, HIV, and hepatitis. Gilead’s Ireland operations are responsible for quality control, packaging release, and distribution of the company’s products in the European Union and other international locations such as the countries supported by the Gilead Access Programme.
Julie O’Neill
Julie O’Neill joined Gilead in 1999, after the acquisition of NeXstar Pharmaceuticals which she joined in 1997. A graduate of Trinity College Dublin with a BSc in pharmacy Julie has also attained an MBA from University College Dublin. Julie is currently the Chairperson of PharmaChemical Ireland - the Pharmaceutical and Chemical Manufacturer's industry organization in Ireland. In addition Julie is a member of the Governing Body of University College Cork and a Member of the Board of IBEC.
