In this exclusive interview, Fintan Walton talks to Ian Wisenberg, SVP of Business Development and CFO of BIOCOM, about the association's role in promoting southern Californian life sciences companies. Mr Wisenberg explains the differences between the life sciences community in northern and southern California. In particular, he emphasises southern California's presence in early-stage drug discovery. The need for capital to maintain the growth of south California's life sciences community is discussed and Mr Wisenberg highlights the success that BIOCOM companies have had in raising capital so far in 2007. The challenge for southern Califorian companies, Mr Wisenberg explains, is for these early-stage discovery companies to make the transition to mature, established companies.
Ian Wisenberg, an internationally experienced executive with more than 20 years experience in finance, human resources and administration, is the SVP of Business Development and CFO of BIOCOM. Mr Wisenberg is responsible for the overall financial and accounting systems of the organisation and for leading the Purchasing Group subsidiary. He leads the organisation's Capital Development initiative to identify opportunities for further investment in southern Californian life sciences companies as well as the establishment of strategic financial partnerships with local, national and international financing institutions.
