Anna Stenstam, CR Competence, talks to Fintan Walton, PharmaVentures about the unique scientific insight they give to customers working with troublesome formulations. Do you have a difficult molecule? If so, then CR Competence can help develop your formulation to improve its performance to the way you need it. They have focused skills on product formulations that they provide to customers in a range of business, from medtech to pharma to the solar industry. This business type of industry diversity has given their service offering more insight through something they call “cross business learning and gains.” With their heritage originating from a former AstraZeneca site, 50% of their business is from the pharmaceutical industry, for pharma, biotech and CRO clients globally.
Anna Stenstam, our charismatic and colourful leading lady, holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry from Lund University and is one of the co-founders of the company, together with Karin Bryskhe. With generous measures of gusto and conviviality, Anna builds and maintains a large portion of our quite substantial external network, as well as our internal human resources. In her role as CEO she is also responsible for all things legal and organizational. As would seem appropriate considering her key responsibilities, Anna is a people person with an equal passion for science and the performing arts. And footwear.
Pharma and Med Tech is indeed the application area that we have served the most in our history. This is due to our background from Astra Zeneca and from academic disciplines focused on soft matter formulations and surface behavior. In our team we have accumulated years of experience from formulation, analysis and large-scale manufacturing of products for several administration alternatives; nasal and pulmonary, oral, topical and intravenous, including small organic molecules as well as biomolecules. Medical technology embraces products as permanent implants, tools as syringes and catheters, instruments used for diagnosis or treatment. We have worked with all kinds because our perspective is that it is very much a surface question. Almost every medical device is in direct contact with a body in one way or another. It is of out most importance that this contact adds to the efficiency without unwanted consequences. This could mean that the material surface must be protected not to be fouled by adsorbing proteins, or the complete opposite, that certain toxins should indeed adsorb for subsequent removal. We understand proper Quality by Design and apply this concept from a scientific, rather than statistical viewpoint. If you turn to us, you can therefore expect us to facilitate your development process through a risk-based, in-depth understanding of your formulation and the interactions between its constituents. In this application area, we have added innovation and new IP to our customers but we have also worked with straight forward failure mode and foreign particle analysis. We are not GxP we understand GxP and can comply with your demands.
